On October 18th College OPTIONS took 42 freshmen from Red Bluff and Corning High Schools to the Tech Museum of Innovation in San Jose and San Jose State University.
Students interested in STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) careers were able to participate in multiple interactive exhibits at the Tech Museum including thermal cameras, robotics, earthquake simulation, and genetic research labs. The Tech Museum is at the heart of the Silicon Valley and is a non-profit learning resource established to inspire innovation. Students were also able to view the STEM-based IMAX film “Forces of Nature†which many students touted as a highlight of the trip.
Following their visit to the Tech Museum, students visited San Jose State where they received a tour of the college campus and spent time in the bookstore. Students attended an admissions presentation and participated in a question and answer session with current San Jose State college students. “The best part of the trip was when the tour guides explained to us about the college. It helped me understand how I need to prepare,†shared a 9th grade participant from Corning High School.
Together with the Tehama County Department of Education, Expect More Tehama, school and community partners, College OPTIONS provides these field trips and many other services in hope of inspiring students to make a plan for college and career. Thank you to Red Bluff Union High School and Corning Union High School for their continued support of these opportunities.
